WhatsApp Web Now Supports Document Sharing

WhatsApp Web Now Supports Document Sharing
WhatsApp officially introduced its popular messaging service on desktops with WhatsApp Web last year in January. The service on desktops steadily gained new features over months and now new features have been rolled out to the WhatsApp Web.

The service on desktop now supports document sharing, a feature which was rolled out to the mobile app in March. Previously, WhatsApp Web allowed users to share photos and videos saved on the system or use the webcam to click a new one. The document sharing feature is now part of the attachment option alongside sharing photos, videos, and camera snaps.

We tried testing the new feature on WhatsApp Web and it worked fine for both ways - sending from WhatsApp for Android and iOS to Web, and Web to WhatsApp for Android and iOS. During our testing, we however found that a user cannot send a document from WhatsApp Web until the receiver has also updated the app to the same or newer Android app version.

It's worth noting that WhatsApp has not updated its WhatsApp Web FAQ (frequently asked questions) page which still shows only two options under the attachment icon. We can expect WhatsApp to officially announce the feature in its upcoming updates for mobile app.

Recently, WhatsApp launched desktop apps for Windows and Mac. With the launch of desktop app, WhatsApp made its messaging service available across all popular platforms in app form. WhatsApp's desktop app was released almost 14 months after the company launched WhatsApp Web that initially marked the debut of the popular messaging app on non-mobile platforms. The WhatsApp desktop app, just like the Web client, requires users to scan a QR code using the WhatsApp app on the smartphone. On the smartphone, users will have to look for WhatsApp Web menu under Settings.
